Off to see the Wizard

Stop by a festival in the U.S. this summer and you might see a seven-story hot air balloon promoting this year’s 70th anniversary release of The Wizard of Oz. The balloon is part of the title’s marketing campaign, which also includes such unique elements as a touring Ruby Slipper Collection exhibit in addition to regular advertising and promotion. Warner Home Video is bringing the classic family film to Blu-ray Disc in September, remastered for high-definition. The 70th anniversary release also will be available in a special DVD collector’s set. Both the Blu-ray and DVD sets will include almost four hours of new and never-before-available bonus features. A special two-DVD edition also will be released. Special features on all editions will include a sing-along track, storybook, featurettes, TV special, documentaries, home movies, outtakes and deleted scenes, shorts and stills galleries. The collector’s editions also will contain silent films, archival material, collectible material including a watch and coffee table book and a digital copy. —Cindy Spielvogel

Fox honors Newman

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will honor a Hollywood icon this September with the release of The Paul Newman Tribute Collection. The set contains 13 films, featuring some of the more than 65 movies the late actor made during his 50-year career. The collection is highlighted by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. The set includes the two-disc collector’s editions of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Hustler, The Verdict and Towering Inferno. Also included are The Long, Hot Summer; Rally 'Round the Flag, Boys!; From the Terrace; Exodus; Hemingway’s Adventures of a Young Man; What a Way to Go!; Hombre; Buffalo Bill and the Indians or Sitting Bull’s History Lesson; and Quintet. Extras include a 136-page book of images, with film excerpts and personal quotes by Newman. —C.S.
