HBO markets 'giftable’ titles

For HBO, Father’s Day is “the second largest holiday to the fourth quarter,” says Sofia Chang, senior VP of retail products for the company. She credits not only the fact that series such as Band of Brothers and The Sopranos are highly “giftable” for dads, but also the company’s continued support through advertising and price promotions at retail. This year, HBO’s consumer advertising for Father’s Day mainly will involve two new Blu-ray releases, Generation Kill and John Adams. The campaign will consist largely of online ads, Chang says.—Cindy Spielvogel
