Caroline, Dave DVD debuts

Two TV series from the ’90s are about to make their debuts as first-season sets on DVD. Through Paramount Home Entertainment, CBS DVD will release the comedy series Caroline in the City starring Lea Thompson and Dave’s World starring Harry Anderson. —Cindy Spielvogel

Caroline in the City: The First Season Lea Thompson (Back to the Future, Some Kind of Wonderful) stars as a neurotic serial cartoonist who uses her life as subject matter for her comic strip; Dave’s World: The First Season Dave Barry (Harry Anderson), a Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist, deals with life in the Florida suburbs with his wife and two sons. Image to Experience Hendrix

Known for both its comedy and music titles, Image Entertainment has more in each category on the way. For music fans, the company has a pair of Blu-ray discs coming to stores: Barry Manilow: Manilow Live! and Korn: Live on the Other Side. On standard DVD, the company is releasing Experience Hendrix, featuring a group of musicians playing the music of the rock legend. Also coming from Image is the comedy Steve-O: The Early Years, about the Jackass performer’s life before he became famous. —C.S.

MVD makes music on DVD

Later this summer, MVD Visual will provide a blend of old and new. In the new category, the U.K. band Marillion is captured over the final two nights of their Somewhere Else album tour in June 2007. Going back to the old, MVD will offer DVDs featuring an assortment of classic bands. In Yes: The Director’s Cut, the progressive rock band that came into prominence in the ’70s can be seen in performances from their 2003 tour. The artist now known as Yusuf Islam is featured in the DVD Tea for the Tillerman, a performance from 1971, when he was still known as Cat Stevens, that also includes his animated short “Teaser and the Firecat.” Then British blues artist John Mayall goes to the heart of America in his Live at Iowa State University performance from the ’80s. And finally, The Beatles’ 1967 Magical Mystery Tour movie can be remembered in a documentary in which people close to the production reflect on the fun they had with The Beatles in making the film. —C.S.
