Behind Enemy Lines 3 starts production

By Susanne Ault -- Video Business,03/24/2008

MARCH 24 | 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has started production on the third installment of its Behind Enemy Lines franchise, starring World Wrestling Entertainment star Mr. Kennedy.

Slated for a 2009 bow, Behind Enemy Lines 3: Columbia will mark the first title from a distribution pact inked last month between WWE and Fox Filmed Entertainment, which holds the studio’s theatrical and DVD units. The partnered companies hope to release one theatrical and four direct-to-DVD titles each year.

Behind Enemy Lines 3 will represent Fox’s second made-for-DVD title for the action franchise, which launched as an Owen Wilson-starring theatrical in 2001. Fox streeted Behind Enemy Lines 2: Axis of Evil in 2006.

Development for this latest title began several months ago, but its targeted 2009 bow was contingent upon the outcome of the Writers Guild of America strike.

WGA-member TV and film screenwriters started going back to work last month.

Along with WWE’s Mr. Kennedy (whose real name is Ken Anderson), Behind Enemy Lines 3 stars Joe Manganiello, Keith David, Channon Roe, Yancey Arias, Jennice Fuentes and Chris Jonhson. Tim Matheson will direct the project, which is being shot on location in Puerto Rico. Jeff Freilich is producing.

The title will follow Navy SEALS stranded in enemy territory in Columbia.
