Fox rewards RecycleBank members with Horton discount

Dec. 2 | 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will partner with RecycleBank to reward its environmentally sensitive members with their own share of green when they purchase Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who! (order now; street: Dec. 9).

RecycleBank members will receive a $3 discount on the two-disc special edition, priced at $34.98 on DVD and $39.98 for Blu-ray, when they redeem their reward points for the title online at Buy.com.

Currently, the RecycleBank program is offered in more than 15 states. Through RecycleBank, members' donations to recycling facilities are measured each week and the weight converted into points—2.5 points for each pound recycled. Members can then redeem those points with local and national RecycleBank partners.

A company spokeswoman for RecycleBank said this is the first time Fox has partnered with the organization, "tying in the environmental themes of Horton to the environmental initiatives we offer our members."

For its part, Fox has included on the DVD and Blu-ray a featurette, Our Speck: Where Do We Fit In?, that uses interviews with children to teach lessons about how small actions contribute to improving the world as a whole.

"The Horton DVD serves as added motivation to keep on recycling and teaches the children the important lesson of taking care of our space, no matter how big or how small," Lisa Pomerantz, RecycleBank director of corporate social responsibility, said.
