First Run makes publicity more eco-friendly

By Wendy Wilson -- Video Business, 11/3/2008

Nov. 3 | First Run Features will eliminate publicity mailings for its releases in a move to green its operations.

Press releases for First Run titles will now be offered by e-mail first, with hard copies and sell sheets available only by request. The company is supporting the initiative with a redesigned online press room, which includes a separate section for DVD content (http://www.firstrunfeatures.com/press.html).

In addition to reducing its use of paper, company spokeswoman Kelly Hargraves said the company is "committed to acquiring even more titles addressing the environment and environmental preservation, and promoting green-living in the workplace and at home."

First Run Features also recycles paper, re-uses shipping boxes and messenger envelopes whenever possible.

Going forward, the company plans to play its theatrical films in a digital format whenever possible, too, eliminating the need to create and ship 35mm film prints around the country.
