FROM VARIETY: 3D player eyes getting into homevid business

JUNE 16 | FROM VARIETY: While Real D, Dolby, NuVision and others duke it out for the 3-D screens in multiplexes, one important 3-D player remains above the fray.

Imax has been exhibiting in 3-D for years, running two of its massive film projectors in tandem. It's developed an array of proprietary technologies to put feature films on its huge screens and to make them look their best in 3-D.

Imax isn't looking to license those technologies to other theatrical systems, but it just might pact to apply them to homevideo, says CEO Richard Gelfond.
