Sony BD players delayed til Oct.

Set-top release now three months after Sony's software launch

JUNE 26 | Sony Electronics has delayed the launch of its first Blu-ray player until late October.

Previously expected to debut in August, the Blu-ray player will now arrive three months after Sony Pictures Home Entertainment launched its first Blu-ray titles June 20.

The delay is due to a product software issue with Sony’s BDP-S1 Blu-ray player that was proving impossible to ignore, said a Sony Electronics spokesman.

“It’s not up to the standards that they wanted, so they are still engineering [it],” the spokesman explained.

Meanwhile, Sony Electronics is tracking the progress of its Blu-ray-equipped laptop computers, which rolled out to stores mid-June.

“The reception at retail has been strong,” the spokesman said, but declined to reveal specific sales figures.
