AUG. 25 | The National Assn. of Video Distributors has joined the Video Software Dealers Assn. in a call for a unified format for high-definition discs.
The organization said Thursday that NAVD directors are supporting the VSDA’s Baseline Criteria for High Definition DVD Format, which encourages backers of Blu-ray and HD DVD to come together.
The position statement also calls for distinctive packaging, features and marketing to support the retail release of high-def discs.
"The members of the board felt it is important to demonstrate support and be united with their retail customers on this important issue," NAVD executive director Bill Burton said. "The successful launch of the next DVD format is vital to all those involved in the home video industry."
