AUG. 9 | Paramount Home Entertainment is turning to immersive Web game Second Life to promote the Aug. 28 DVD release of Blades of Glory.

Second Life users can get virtual costumes based on Blades of Glory.
Starting Aug. 24, studio honchos will throw a week-long DVD release party for the Will Ferrell comedy inside Second Life’s interactive site. Paramount will make up 12 ice skating rinks within the virtual infrastructure and hand out free replicas of Blades of Glory costumes to the party-goers.
If site visitors can skate at all 12 featured rinks through Aug. 31, they will be entered into a prize drawing for $10,000 in Second Life currency, dubbed Linden dollars. Second- and third-place prizes will be awarded $1,000 Linden dollars and a Blades of Glory DVD.
Second Life’s residents, now numbering more than 8.7 million, use Linden cash to create the world’s fantasy avatars and work/live/play environments.
