MAY 25 | Blockbuster CEO John Antioco was re-elected chairman of the company’s board Thursday at its annual stockholders meeting. Board directors Robert A. Bowman and Jackie M. Clegg were re-elected to serve until the company’s 2009 annual meeting.
Antioco’s re-election this year lacked the drama of last year’s meeting, when he lost his seat after being challenged by financier Carl Icahn and two Icahn-backed board nominees (VB, 5-13-05).
In the weeks leading up to last year’s meeting, Icahn had accused Antioco of overspending shareholder’s money. Immediately after losing his seat, the board unanimously voted to create a new seat for Antioco and kept him on as chairman and CEO. Since then, Icahn has backed off of his attempts to gain control of the board.
Antioco ran unopposed this year.
