Lost Creators See Full Series in Blu
December 2, 2008

Heading into its fifth season, Lost could turn out to be the first major full series TV set released on Blu-ray. During a Tuesday Q&A roundtable, Lost creators Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindeloff predicted that upon the series completion in 2009-2010 there should be a full six-season Blu-ray release. However, Cuse and Lindeloff didn't think that the show's earlier first and second seasons would get individual Blu-ray releases. Lost first started getting Blu-ray versions day and date with standard-definition editions beginning in season three.
As Cuse put it, "If I were a betting man, I'd lay down a lot of money that you'll that you'll be able to buy a complete series set Blu-ray box set when all is said and done."
To date, no primetime series has been released in full form on Blu-ray. Likely because of the format's premium pricing, people have so far been treated to individual season sets in the format.
I do wonder how much peopel would covet a full Blu-ray TV DVD set.  It would have to be tagged with an incredibly steep price. The fourth season Blu-ray of Lost, bowing on Dec. 9, is $96.99. If you multiply that by 6, that's $581. Wowzers. That seems ridiculous, but when the standard-definition six-season set of Sopranos carries a $400 SRP, than an approximately $600 full series Blu-ray set doesn't seem so out of the ballpark.
Well, let's just hope that we are fully out of a recession when Cuse and Lindeloff start pushing for a full Blu-ray series set in earnest.

Many of us already have purchased Seasons 3 & 4 on Blu-Ray. Being forced to buy them AGAIN in order to get the first two seasons is disgraceful and I won't do it. Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindeloff need to support their loyal fans, not screw them over.

I checked out DVDCollects and it looks like they are only offering standard-definition sets at this time. So at this point there isn't anything available for Lost seasons one and two on Blu-ray

Are you sure you're not misinterpreting Cuse's answer to the Blu-ray question? Here's what he actually said: "We have heard of no plans to go back and re-release seasons one and two on bluRay." I don't see how that translates to "we don't think they'll get individual Blu-ray releases." They just haven't heard of any plans. Since all the content for S1&2 is already complete, Buena Vista can re-encode the material for Blu-ray and release it at their leisure. Cuse & Lindelof don't have to be personally involved at all. As they've said numerous times in their podcasts, they have no control over how ABC chooses to promote the show. I'm sure that extends to the DVD/Blu-ray releases of the show as well - they provide the content, Buena Vista controls the encoding, packaging, marketing, and release.
