Online video newsbits
October 31, 2006
It seems almost impossible to keep up with all the deals going on daily in online video, but here are a few more noteworthy highlights from the last two days...
•YouTube is pulling clips from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Colbert Report and other shows following a letter sent from Viacom last week asking that clips of its shows be taken down.
•Brightcove Networks signed a distribution deal with AOL to make content available on a pay-download basis through AOL. Brightcove allows anyone to upload video and launch a commercial Internet TV channel and syndicate it to other web sites. Users upload their video content for free and give Brightcove the right to sell advertising around it in exchange for a 50% cut of revenues. Content owners can also sell or rent their video clips through Brightcove, taking a 70% share of sales.
• Starting tomorrow, CBS will launch mobile game CSI: Q letting CSI: NY viewers predict the episode outcome for a chance to win $10,000. During episodes airing Nov. 1, 8 and 15, CBS will air a promo with a question asking viewers how they think the episode will end. Viewers can then text in answers to be entered into the weekly prize drawing. Different questions will be asked for the Eastern, Pacific and Hawaiian airings of the show.
