iTunes close to movie rentals
September 13, 2007

Thanks to new VB reporter Ned Randolph for this tidbit:

Reports that Apple is poised to move its iTunes into download rentals kicked into high gear last week, when blogger David Watanabe reported in his dwblog on www.newsfirerss.com that he had stumbled upon a menu pertaining to rental movies while attempting to report a problem on iTunes.

He posted a screen shot of the menu with options including "DidNotReceiveMovie-RentalMovie" and "WrongVersion-RentalMovie."

However, Apple has work yet to do before it takes on Blockbuster, Netflix and even the kiosks of the world, said analysts, pointing to iTunes' limited ability to deliver movies to TV sets.

"They can be very close from a business point of view. The question to ask is how close is the customer to the solution Apple provides," said Trip Chowdhry, analyst with Global Equities Research.
