60 Minutes Rooney questions movie renting

December 18, 2006

Hacking Netflix points to an audio clip from last night's 60 Minutes where the always relevant and ahead of his time Andy Rooney questioned whether most people will ever watch movies at home.

Rooney says he's unsure about Netflix's revenues and goes on to doubt the rental business: "Well, I may be wrong but I don’t think renting movies to watch at home for $5.00 is ever going to be the way most Americans see a movie. You can’t rent the popcorn." The man is a genius! You can't rent popcorn. He probably is one of those people that believes the Internet is a series of tubes, as Sen. Ted Stevens has described in one of The Daily Show's favorite clips.

Andy Rooney's right: You can't rent popcorn. Also, no one should be paying more than 35 cents for popcorn and a movie.
