Sopranos on iTunes?
May 12, 2008

HBO may sell episodes on Apple’s iTunes service, Reuters reported today, citing a person familiar with the negotiations that it didn’t identify.

Apple, which started renting movies on iTunes in January, will likely charge more than its standard $1.99 per episode price for some shows from Time Warner television-network unit, the wire service said.

Apple doesn’t change the price on its television episodes, though its iTunes store in Japan varies song prices, Reuters said. Apple said last month that it leapfrogged Wal-Mart to become the No. 1 U.S. music retailer, citing NPD Group. The company said it has sold more than 4 billion songs to its 50 million customers.

Apple has been selling television shows on iTunes since October 2005, when it started selling episodes of Desperate Housewives and Lost from Walt Disney’s ABC network.

Apple and HBO officials couldn’t be reached for comment, the wire service said.
