Not Content
October 27, 2006

Sitting at Digital Hollywood this week, I started to wonder when my job got so boring. I mean, I write about movies and TV shows on DVD and the Internet. Not boring. But listening to people talk about content - short-form content, long-form content, content, content, content - I just started to tune out. Who wants to watch content? Who's going to ask their friends what content is on TV tonight? I get that people are using content as a general-use term for all video. And everybody's using it these days. "Content is king," I keep hearing. But seriously, isn't there another word that doesn't totally take all the excitement and fun and glamour out of entertainment?

Yeah... we used to call it and the people that make it creative and then we thought better of it. It could be worse, we could just start calling it what it really is... filler. As in, did you see the filler they put in between that really great High Def commercial on HDNet last night!?!?!
