The Number 23
March 26, 2007
Jim Carrey's turn at horror comes will be released on DVD in New Line's Infinifilm line, known for special features that go "Beyond the Movie."
The Number 23 DVD will be released July 17 (prebook June 12) priced at $28.98. New Line hasn't picked sides in the format war yet, so no high-def version -- but do we need one?
The movie grossed only $30 million at the box office, but didn't get very good reviews.
Variety said
Number 23 "plays like a very
grungy episode of Sesame Street." Not what most psychological thriller fans are looking for, I dare say. And the Rotten Tomatoes
Critics Tomatometer gave it a pretty lousy 8%.
Still New Line is pumping up the DVD, where a lot of horrors do better anyway. Both the R-rated theatrical cut and an unrated cut are playable on the disc, as well as featurettes about the obsession with the number 23 (I was also partial to 7, myself -- what does that say about me?) and the history of numerology.
There's also the usual director's commentary, deleted scenes, making-of featurette and the original ending.
