Vantage Point DVD, Blu-ray, PSP
April 28, 2008
The $72 million-grossing presidential assassination thriller Vantage Point will on DVD, Blu-ray and for PlayStation Portable on July 1.
Starring Dennis Quaid and Lost hottie Matthew Fox, Vantage Point looks at an assassination attempt on the U.S. President from different ... vantage points. Sigourney Weaver and William Hurt also star.
The movie didn't get a great review from Variety, which said: "Circling endlessly around a political assassination attempt and its violently contrived aftermath, the film proves every bit as crude, nerve-grinding and finally unsalvageable as the car accidents it keeps inflicting on its characters." Ouch.
But, despite that, the movie did decent business on the big screen and should follow through on disc. Thrillers are generally enjoyed on the home front.
Sony will release the movie in two-disc and single-disc versions on standard-def DVD. Prices are $34.95 for the two-DVD set, $38.96 for Blu-ray, $28.96 for the vanilla DVD and $24.94 for PSP. But buyers of the two-disc or Blu-ray versions will get a digital copy for playback on the PlayStation 3, PC or ... PSP. So why get the plain PSP version, unless you don't have a DVD player? Hmmm.
Extras on the two-DVD set:
· Deleted Scene
· An Inside Perspective: Interviews with the cast and crew
· Plotting an Assassination: Interview with first-time screenwriter Barry Levy
· Commentary with director Pete Travis
Extras on Blu-ray:
Same as the two-disc, plus the exclusive high-def "Vantage Viewer: GPS Tracker" feature, which lets viewers track the movements of each character through the film's overlapping timelines.
Prebook date is May 29 for all versions.
