Firehouse Dog DVD
May 16, 2007

You might think that $13 million is a pretty small gross for a family film in wide release, but that shouldn't cool the DVD potential for Fox's Firehouse Dog. I mean, it's got a dog in it!

Ok, I'm a sucker for dogs, but so are many, many, many people, the people who made Lassie, Benji, Air Bud... stars.

Firehouse Dog stars Rex (check out the pic of him sitting in the firetruck. What a cutie.), a "celebrity canine ... known for his extreme athletic abilities, diamond-studded lifestyle and diva-like demeanor," according to the press materials. Anyway, he gets lost and is adopted by an inner-city fire station known as the Dogpatch.

As well as Rex, the movie stars Bruce Greenwood from I, Robot, Spider-Man 3's Bill Nunn and Desparate Housewives' Steven Culp. And the film apparently got the Dove Seal of Approval. So it must be clean. :)

It's bow-wowing (sorry, that's bad) to DVD on July 31 (prebook July 5) priced at $29.98.

As well as the usual multi-million-dollar campaign, Fox is doing outreach to kids and moms and in-school programs.

And for those dog lovers, the special features have plenty more to enjoy. Here's the list from the press release:

  • Dog Treats featurettes
    • Tricks of the Trade
    • Stunt Dogs:  Who Protects Them?
