Warner's winners
October 19, 2006
Sorry for the lack of posts this week. I injured my big toe (it's gross, so I won't go into details) last week, and have been a bit slow every since.
Anyway, it's
Warner's week to shine to Disc Dish. The studio announced
Lady in the Water, M. Night Shyamalan's backyard pool fantasy, and
A Scanner Darkly, Richard Linklater's futuristic drug fantasy, for Dec. 19 release (prebook Nov. 14).
Lady in the Water will be released as a single-disc standard DVD with lenticular packaging for $28.98 as well as on Blu-ray for $34.99 and as an HD DVD Combo for $39.99. The movie wasn't received as well as Shyamalan's others in theaters, but I suspect there will be quite a few curious renters and even buyers once it hits DVD. Special features are listed as additional scenes, a six-chapter documentary on the film, auditions, a gag reel (Paul Giamatti should be good for a few laughs) and the featurette "
Lady in the Water: A Bedtime Story."
A Scanner Darkly will be only on standard DVD, priced at $27.95. The Keanu Reeves starrer only had a limited theatrical release but brought in an impressive $5.5 million, so it is also positioned to overperform box office on disc. Supplements include commentary with Linklater, Reeves and Isa Hackett Dick (among others) and two making-of documentaries that the press materials claim are "revealing." We'll be the judge of that.
