Mr. Brooks DVD
August 13, 2007
Ok, I don't know what this says about me, but I really liked Kevin Costner as a serial killer in this movie.
Mr. Brooks grossed $28 million, not stellar, especially for a Costner film. But this is bound to be a sleeper hit on DVD, much like terrorist thriller Arlington Road in 1999.
MGM will deliver Mr. Brooks to DVD on Oct. 23 (prebook Sept. 5) through distributor Fox. The disc will be priced at $29.98 and offer commentary, deleted scenes with commentary and three featurettes: "The Birth of a Serial Killer: A Look at the Writing of Mr. Brooks," "On the Set of Mr. Brooks" and "Murder On Their Minds: Mr. Brooks, Marshall & Mr. Smith."
As well as a great performance by Costner, Mr. Brooks has the always great William Hurt, as well as surprisingly good turns for Demi Moore and Dane Cook, surprising only because they are so different than other roles they've played.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, only 56% of critics liked the film, but what do critics know? It got a higher 77% rating from users, and they're the ones who'll buy and rent the DVD.
