After racking in $50 million at the box office (not as much as Passion of the Christ, but not bad for a movie in a dead language about a dead civilization), Apocalypto will be on DVD May 22 (prebook April 10) priced at $29.99.

Special features on Buena Vista's DVD are "Becoming Mayan," a making-of featurette with a splash of historical info; a commentary with writer/director Mel Gibson and co-writer Farhad Safinia; and deleted scenes with optional commentary.

Despite reports of extreme violence, this film got some really good reviews (and some bad ones). Here's Rotten Tomatoes collection of opinions.
