Roots: 30th Anniversary
February 27, 2007
Studios love their anniversary DVD editions. Warner's bringing out the Roots: 30th Anniversary Special Edition on May 22 (prebook April 17), a four-disc set for $59.98 and boasting a new bonus disc of special features.
I'm not sure how many times
Roots has been released on disc; I'm sure at least once. But a quick search on
DVDEmpire.com wasn't much help (if you go through a few pages, you'll even get the
Barbara Streisand DVD Gift Set).
But no matter, this mini-series still claims the position as the No. 1 mini-series of all time, so say the press materials, and if we can have multiple additions of Dodgeball, it's definitely time for Roots.
The touted special features are a new documentary created for this DVD set called "Crossing Over: How Roots Captivated an Entire Nation;" the behind-the-scenes doc "Remembering
Roots;" video of cast members reminiscing about filmming, a commentary with key cast members, including La Var Burton, Cicely Tyson and Ed Asner; and a the Roots family tree on ROM. That could be cool.
