Last King of Scotland, Notes on a Scandal, Good Shepherd
February 15, 2007
April is shaping up as the month for smaller, thought-provoking movies. Fox has set Oscar-nominated The Last King of Scotland (Forest Whitaker for best actor) and Notes on a Scandal (Judi Dench for best actress and Cate Blanchett for best supporting actress) for release on April 17 (prebook March 21; DVD $29.98), time enough for another quick theatrical release after the Academy Awards on Feb. 25, no doubt. The studio has piled on the extras for both, offering a commentary on each, plus various featurettes fit for an Oscar campaign.
Universal will bow the equally critically acclaimed and Oscar-nominated The Good Shepherd (best art direction) on April 3 (prebook Feb. 20) priced at $29.98 on DVD and $39.98 on HD DVD Combo, with deleted scenes on the HD DVD side. With $59 million at the box office, Shepherd is by far the biggest of these little films.
