Fantastic 4 Extended Edition
March 29, 2007
It was inevitable! Fox is releasing Fantastic Four Extended Edition on June 5 (prebook May 9), nine days before Rise of the Silver Surfer glides into theaters.
The two-disc
Extended Edition set, priced at $26.98, will have the theatrical version plus a branched version with 20 additional minutes.
There are two commentaries on the theatrical version: a cast commentary with Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba and Michael Chiklis (probably the same one as on the original disc), and a track with director Tim Story (such a great name for a filmmaker), writers Michael France and Mark Frost (both with the initials MF; odd), producer Avi Arad and exe producer Kevin Feige -- a lot of people. The same people on that second commentary are also on a commentary for the extended version, no doubt branched like the movie.
There's also 19 deleted/extended scenes, but one wonders if they're the same ones that are put back in the movie for the extended version. Hmmm
Plus there's two alternate title sequences and the obligatory promotion of
Silver Surfer, of course: a trailer and a featurette. And that's disc one.
Disc two piles a making-of documentary, five featurettes on the comic book and production, a multi-angle animatic-to-scene study of six scenes -- my husband's a visual effects artist, so he'll like this one -- a plenty o' stills.
