The Seeker DVD
January 15, 2008
According to Fox, the Orlando Sentinel said The Seeker could be "the next Harry Potter," but audiences apparently thought otherwise, as the movie grossed only $8.8 million in theaters.
The Seeker does have something else in common with Harry Potter, though: It's based on a children's book series, Susan Cooper's Newbery Award-winning The Dark Is Rising series.
The story is about a 14-year-old boy who finds out he is the last of a group of ancient warriors who have dedicated their lives to fighting the forces of The Dark. Also like Potter, there's magic and the fate of the world lies in this boy's hands.
Produced by Walden Media, the makers of Chronicles of Narnia and Bridge to Terabithia, The Seeker should look good. According to Fox, it won the Kids First Seal of Approval, the Film Advisory Board Award of Excellence and the Heartland Truly Moving Pictures Award.
So, when's it coming out? Those who missed The Seeker in theaters (and apparently there were a lot) will be able to try it out on DVD on March 18 (prebook Feb. 20). It's priced at $29.98, and Fox hasn't got any special features listed, probably because of the small box-office turnout.
Fox supports Blu-ray, but there's no Blu-ray announce for this as yet.
