Kenny from down under, DVD
September 9, 2008
We've been treated to a bunch of good movies from down under. On Sept. 30, Xenon will bring to DVD in the U.S. Kenny, an Australian comedy that has had critics cheering all over the world.
Filmmaker Michael Moore apparently called Kenny "the funniest movie I've seen since Borat," and the London Times said it's "one of the funniest, warmest films of the year." From the San Francisco Bay Guardian: "One of those films that sneaks up on you ... before you know it, you're grinning ear to ear." And Chicago Tribune's Maureen M. Hart, wrote, "A hit and prize winner in Australia, Kenny has the power to charm no matter which way the water swirls."
So what is this masterpiece about? Porta-potties. Or, more specifically, porta-potty delivery/maintenance man Kenny Smyth. The mockumentary follows Kenny as he juggles family tensions, fatherhood and, of course, sewage. Sounds delightful.
One of the funniest parts of the U.S. DVD is that it will include English subtitles, "for the Aussie-impaired," says the press materials. That's funny.
Other DVD extras are:
- A Behind-the-Scenes look at Kenny: The Making of Kenny, Post Production, Directing in Nashville
- Bloopers
- A Load of Deleted Scenes
- Hidden Bonus Scene
- Commentary by Kenny and director Clayton Jacobson
Price will be $24.98, and prebook already passed on Sept. 3.
