Lost Tomb of Jesus
March 21, 2007
If James Cameron wanted the spotlight, a documentary claiming to have found the resting place of the bones of Jesus Christ would do it.
As you all already know by now -- or have been living under a rock --
The Lost Tomb of Jesus aired on the Discovery Channel earlier this month surrounded by much debate about its authenticity. But as controversy increases, so does interest. The doc scored Discovery Channel's highest ratings since September 2005, according to the press release.
And on April 24 (prebook March 27), a feature-length director's cut will be released on DVD ($24.98) from
Koch Vision. Special features include an "Epilogue" with Cameron and the director, additional interviews and a photo gallery.
The controversy will no doubt heat up again around the time of the release.
Here's some links about what both sides are saying:
*
Discovery Channel's Lost Tomb of Jesus site.
*
CNN.com's article with archaelogists discounting the doc, but saying the filmmakers "just want to get money for it."
* The
Courier-Journal's article saying this is old news (something the CNN article says too).
*
Archaelogy.com's review of the science in the doc.
*
The New York Time's review of the doc, saying it's enjoyable, like a treasure hunt.
* Variety.com's review, saying the doc is less than, well, titanic (they're pun, not mine).
