Catch & Release, Stomp the Yard
March 19, 2007
This one came and went in theaters. Sony's putting Catch & Release on DVD on May 8 (prebook April 5)priced at $28.95.
The Jennifer Garner romantic comedy grossed $15 million in theaters. Garner plays a woman who finds romance while she's grieving over the death of her fiance. Heavy stuff.
Timothy Olyphant, Kevin Smith and Juliette Lewis star, with Susannah Grant directing (
Erin Brockovich). (
Here's IMDB's list of credits)
According to Rotten Tomatoes, it had only 22% on the
Critics Tomatometer. Ouch.
The DVD will have two commentaries: Grant and Smith on one, and Grant and cinematographer John Lindley on the other. (Do we really care about the cinematography on a romantic comedy?
300 maybe, but
Catch and Release? Garner and Olyphant would have been better, but maybe they were busy.)
In other words, nothing too thrilling, but romantic comedies can do ok on disc, so it'll certainly get some business.
On May 15 (prebook April 12), Sony will bow
Stomp the Yard, which fared much better in theaters, taking in $60.8 million, even if it did only get 25% on the
Critics Tomatometer.
Extras on the DVD ($28.95 for widescreen or fullscreen versions) include commentary by the filmmakers, a featurette called "Battles. Rivals. Brothers," two extended dance sequences, a deleted scene and outtakes.
