Persepolis DVD, Blu-ray
May 6, 2008
This animated coming-of-age film by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud was nominated for the best animated feature Oscar, but lost out to Ratatouille. As good as Ratatouille is, Persepolis looks very deserving.
It's based on the autobiographical graphic novels by Satrapi and looks at Iran during the Islamic Revolution through the eyes of a 9-year-old girl as she grows, is sent away from Iran for her own safety, and once an adult returns, marries, but then decides to leave again.
Sony is releasing the film, which won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, on June 24 (prebook May 27) on DVD ($29.95) and Blu-ray ($38.96).
Extras include cast and crew commentary on select scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes, scene comparisons with commentary by Satrapi and a Q&A session with the cast and crew from Cannes.
