Be Kind Rewind DVD
April 14, 2008
The last DVD release handled by New Line before the studio is folded into Warner will street June 17 (prebook May 13).
Be Kind Rewind will be released on DVD only, no Blu-ray yet, priced at $27.95.
The comedy starring Jack Black and Mos Def as video store clerks who have to recreate Hollywood hits after Black accidentally erases the store's entire VHS inventory. (How nostalgic.)
Be Kind Rewind grosseed $11 million in limited release and didn't score too well in reviews, with most people saying it should have been better than it was. Variety wasn't too kind, calling it "a quick trip from whimsy to silliness." On Rotten Tomatoes, Be Kind Rewind scored 65% with critics but 73% with its community, so that bodes well for rental action.
DVD extras are scant but could be entertaining: a featurette tribute to the people and places of Passaic, N.J.
