> Australian indie rock melodrama has big doses of sexuality.
Australian filmmaker Anna Brownfield spices up her somewhat familiar tale of the heartaches and betrayals of a rock band on tour with an element rarely seen in indie features outside of 9 Songs and The Brown Bunny, namely graphic sexuality. The music is decent but forgettable, and the characters seem as if they’ve jumped straight out of a Fabulous Stains ’80s punk movie. Thus, the sexual encounters comprise the main virtue of the picture.
Shelf Talk: Couples looking for a graphic, but not pornographic, feature are the target demo for Band, one of the premiere titles from new distributor Breaking Glass. The film also should be handled as a gay title, as it features both lesbian encounters and quite a lot of male anatomy.
