> Charming hybrid documentary about the meaning of love.
In this pseudo documentary, Charlyne Yi (Knocked Up, Semi-Pro) plays herself, or a film version of herself, who embarks on a cross-country road trip with director friend Nicholas Jasenovec (played on screen by Jake M. Johnson) to make a documentary about love. Paper Heart’s highlights are the candid interviews with people who talk openly about their romances and views on love. The fictional aspect involves Yi’s relationship with Michael Cera (Year One), in which she learns first-hand what love really means. The film balances out nicely, as too much of either the documentary or the fictional story line would have grown tiresome.
Shelf Talk: Paper Heart has buzz following its Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at Sundance. Also market Cera, known for his quirky, awkward roles, which include TV’s Arrested Development, currently in development for the big screen.
