JULY 8 | PHYSICAL: Bright Stage Media, a new company formed this year by home entertainment and technology vets Randy Malinoff and Brian Johnson, has developed a BD Live e-commerce application that will allow viewers to get information about, share and buy select items they see in Blu-ray Disc movies. The company said the technology will be used on a major studio Blu-ray release in August, though it would not specify the title.
“Actively engaging consumers with a product online—to identify it, obtain information about it and buy it—is a potent way for content owners and advertisers to forge lasting relationships with consumers. From these relationships come enhanced brand awareness and loyalty. Enhanced brand awareness and loyalty translate into maximum long-term revenue streams for content owners and advertisers,” Malinoff said in a statement.
In addition to Bright Stage, Johnson also is CEO of B1 Media, and Malinoff is CEO of That’s It! Media Group. That’s It! developed a video technology that identifies consumer products in movies, TV and other video and allows consumers to buy the item from the video. B1 is a production company well-known for its work in DVD and Blu-ray special features.
