> Hyperkinetic, disjointed thriller will appeal to action lovers and sci-fi fans.
A near-incoherent action film with sci-fi trappings, Push unfolds in a future dystopia where some people visualize events that have not yet transpired and others transport objects with sheer brainpower. A third mutant group uses telepathy to plant ideas in the minds of their victims. Dakota Fanning plays a “watcher” who teams up with “mover” Chris Evans to change the apocalyptic future she has envisioned. They’re opposed by clever, implacable enemies working for a government entity known as The Division. The end result is a confusing conglomerate of fights and chases, jaggedly shot and edited. Push will satisfy youthful, action-hungry viewers, but disappoint those craving more substantive entertainment.
Shelf Talk: A savvy marketing campaign and relentless exploitation of the star names will help Push, and those who fawn over Evans should comprise the bulk of the home audience.
