Schoolhouse Rock! and Handy Manny take on green themes

March 25 | Disney is offering up fresh, green-themed kids’ fare on DVD later this month, two releases with their own animated twists on environmental themes.In stores in time for Earth Day, Schoolhouse Rock! Earth is an updated take on the classic franchise. The title contains 11 new songs about conservation concerns (“Report from the North Pole,” “Don’t Be a Carbon Sasquatch” and “You Oughta Be Savin’ Water” to name a few), as well as the return of a few characters that parents are likely to recognize.
A digitally remastered version of environmentally friendly Schoolhouse Rock! standard “The Energy Blues” is included as a bonus feature.
Schoolhouse Rock! Earth will be promoted on Disney Channel with a music video for an updated version of the series’ first song, “Three is a Magic Number,” along with clips from the DVD. The title carries a suggested retail price of $26.99.
And for preschool audiences, Handy Manny: Manny’s Green Team includes the video premiere episode “Saving Turtles” and the original recycling game “Livin’ La Vida Verde.” The disc also features a printable checklist providing tips on how families can improve the eco-friendliness of their own homes.
