Higgins to receive Presidential Award at NARM
Trans World chairman/CEO honored for impact on music retailing

MARCH 16 | Robert Higgins, chairman/CEO of Trans World Entertainment, will receive the Presidential Award for Sustained Executive Achievement at this year’s National Assn. of Recording Merchandisers conference.

Higgins will be honored at the NARM 2009 event on June 10 in San Diego.
He is being recognized for moving Trans World from primarily a music retail brand into a seller of broad entertainment products. Higgins founded Trans World, best known for its F.Y.E. chain, in 1972.
Past NARM Presidential Award recipients include Eric Paulson, Don Cornelius, Clive Davis, Dick Clark and Russ Solomon.
“I am delighted to honor Bob with our Presidential Award, as he is a visionary entrepreneur who has truly made a positive impact on music retailing,” said NARM president Jim Donio. “Under his leadership, Trans World has evolved and embraced multimedia convergence, progressively blending the realms of bricks-and-mortar and digital experiences for consumers.”
Video Business inducted Higgins into its Video Hall of Fame in 2003. He also has received Billboard magazine’s Video Person of the Year Award in 1997.
“I am honored to have been selected for the NARM Presidential Award and to join its esteemed list of past honorees,” said Higgins. “Trans World Entertainment’s relationship with NARM goes back 35 years, and during that time, we have worked together to address many changes and challenges that have affected our industry. It has been—and continues to be—a great partnership, and I am most grateful for NARM’s recognition.”
