> Imaginative film about a Czech senior’s fantasies.
A touching film on old age and imagination, this Czech drama concerns a curious gent (Oldrich Kaiser) who watches the events in his neighborhood from his apartment window. Director Mária Procházková treads a delicate balance between the drab reality and the old man’s flights of fancy, which are conveyed by various visual effects and animation.
Shelf Talk: Shark lacks names, but fits in well with fantasy-minded Czech directors (Vera Chytilova, Jan Svankmajer). Also, the film played at festivals in Toronto, London, Moscow and Warsaw.
