> Mary Stuart Masterson directs a thoughtful drama starring Twilight’s Kristen Stewart.
What a beautiful movie. Twilight’s Kristen Stewart is heart-breaking as a teen disabled and dying from a genetic nerve disorder who decides to lose her virginity to Aaron Stanford (X-Men’s Pyro) and makes no secret of it. Supporting roles are ably filled by veterans Elizabeth Ashley and Bruce Dern as long-time illicit lovers. In her directorial debut, actress Mary Stuart Masterson reveals a mature, sensitive hand at the helm and works magic with the script by Jayce Bartok, who plays a failed rock star.
Shelf Talk: The initial draw to this remarkable drama is star power. Besides the topliners, Swingtown’s Miriam Shor and Mad Men’s Talia Balsam also are on hand, as is a quick appearance by Frozen River Oscar nominee Melissa Leo. But leading lady Stewart of the $189 million-grossing Twilight will give this unlikely title legs.
