> Christian indie melodrama that set a blaze at the box office.
This openly Christian melodrama landed in the Top 5 in the opening weekend of its theatrical release and has so far grossed more than $30 million. Kirk Cameron plays a fireman whose marriage is going up in flames until his father steps in and offers him a 40-day plan to save it. The lengthy feature tries to cover a lot of ground, as it offers up tips for saving a marriage, suspenseful action sequences, teary moments of grief and various marital spats—all on the way to the inevitable reconciliation.
Shelf Talk: Fireproof not only did well at the box office, but scored a lot of ink as a Christian indie feature that competed against big-budget Hollywood blockbusters. Fireproof comes in on the coattails of a previous Alex Kendrick-directed hit (Facing the Giants) and wound up spawning a best-selling marriage guide, The Love Dare, based on the advice dispensed in the film.
