JAN. 9 | After months of restructuring, Phoenix Entertainment Group has changed its name to Phoenix Entertainment Distribution to represent its move to multiple platforms. The company also signed an output distribution agreement with The People’s Network.
Phoenix is increasing its global content distribution on platforms beyond DVD, including day-and-date digital distribution on cable-on-demand on all new releases beginning in February. Recognizing that shelf space at retail is shrinking, Phoenix believes additional awareness from other platforms will help its business at retail.
“We know that with the added advertising and exposure our product will have, it will help our bricks-and-mortar business, while we take advantage of the fact that our consumer base is very hip and has the latest in computer and mobile hardware and are looking for more ways to take advantage of it,” said Tony Perez, president of Phoenix.
The People’s Network, owned and operated by Bobby and Renee Peoples, is based in Atlanta and produces films after polling movie watchers about what they would like to see. The company sees itself following in the footsteps of both Roger Corman and Tyler Perry.
Upcoming titles to be released through Phoenix include the Feb. 3 thriller Black Love Stories, the Feb. 24 horror Night of the Jackals and the faith-based Deliverance in the House on March 10. The DVDs are priced at $14.99 each.
Founded in 2005, Phoenix distributes titles in the urban, horror, Christian and Latino genres under the labels Under the Bed Films, By the River’s Side Films, Phoenix Latino and Phoenix Entertainment.
