> B-movie fave Bruce Campbell pokes fun at his image in this cult-a-palooza.
Huge-chinned B-movie champ Bruce Campbell makes himself out to be quite a chump in this cheapie homage to himself and his fans. He plays himself—only as a down-and-out, dirty-mouthed thespian called on to help rid a town of an ancient Chinese spirit that has been unleashed by a Campbell follower. Bruce gets to work, but also makes time for jabs to himself and his devotees, tacky special effects, good ol’ boy humor, The Evil Dead movies and low-budget movie-making. Fans and midnight movie geeks will deal themselves in if Campbell’s their bowl of soup; others will steer clear of this wild thing.
Shelf Talk: My Name is Bruce got theatrical playdates that included appearances by Campbell himself in many cities, a nice push for the quick release of this loaded DVD. Image will aim for fanboy coverage in Fangoria, Rue Morgue, Bloody-Disgusting and other Web sites. Actor/director Campbell also has gained exposure as a regular on TV’s Burn Notice.
