Study: Videogame ratings enforcement improved

Entertainment Merchants Assn. legislative update for November

DEC. 3 | The following summarizes key government affairs activities during November of the Entertainment Merchants Assn.

Videogame Report Card: The National Institute on Media and Family released its 13th annual MediaWise Videogame Report Card. NIMF found that “retailers have improved their record of keeping age-inappropriate content out of children’s hands,” giving Retailer Ratings Enforcement a B+. The Federal Trade Commission found an 80% turn-down rate for children under 17 who attempted to purchase a Mature-rated videogame. Last year, NIMF gave national retailers a D for ratings enforcement, specialty retailers a B and rental stores an F.
