> Three-disc set offers much more than awesome picture and sound.
DVDs of Pixar movies set a standard for high quality, and Disney has stayed the course on Blu-ray with WALL-E. The movie looks and sounds great, with crisp video, saturated colors and all the robots’ pips and beeps clear in the speakers. In the supplements, for adults, both picture-in-picture commentaries—one with director/co-writer Andrew Stanton and another done a la Mystery Science Theater with animators—provide a wealth of interesting information about the film’s production. Kids will love the short films, from the stand-alone Presto and BURN-E to one with WALL-E playing with his garbage pile finds. Some of the most imaginative extras are the Axiom Arcade games, which add some nostalgia as they’re based on such old games as Joust and Pac-Man.
Shelf Talk: Pixar movies have a following, and fans/collectors will want to pay extra for this pristine three-disc Blu-ray version. Others have plenty of options: single DVD for $29.99, three-DVD set for $39.99 and two-disc Blu-ray for $35.99. With the small price differences and low-cost BD players in stores this fourth quarter, there’s a good chance consumers could choose to go high-def.
