> Extreme visual and musical style makes the Blue Man Group perfect for Blu-ray.
The Blue Man Group stage show is a perfect billboard for the Blu-ray format. It’s not just that the touring troupe’s chosen color matches the casing design of every Blu-ray Disc. But as evident on this Blu-ray release, the high-definition effects really do catapult the actors onto viewers’ laps. There is such an obvious 3D experience in watching three cobalt-blue heads bobbing around on an otherwise darkened stage. As a long-time live act, the Blue Man troupe has always been a fan of eye-popping visuals, including the use of wacky Day-Glo instruments. One drawback to this Megastar performance is that there are one too many comic interludes that fall a little flat. At one point, the Blue troupe tries to steal an audience member’s credit card, which disappointingly offers little in sound or color for Blu-ray. However, there is a high-def documentary bonus feature that displays many of the Blue Man Group’s classic stage antics, such as drumming with explosive rainbow paint.
Shelf Talk: Those who’ve balked at paying the steep prices for the Blue Man Group’s live stage shows should appreciate this relatively cheap $19.98 Blu-ray release for its ability to put them seemingly inches away from the action.
