EMA-supported Intellectual Property Rights Act passed

Entertainment Merchants Assn. legislative update for October

By Cheryl Cheng -- Video Business, 11/4/2008

NOV. 4 | The following summarizes key government affairs activities during October of the Entertainment Merchants Assn.

S. 3325, Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights Act of 2008: The President has signed the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights Act into law, which will enhance existing civil and criminal copyright law, provide greater coordination of federal anti-piracy efforts and direct more resources for enforcement of intellectual property laws. EMA supported the measure.

VSDA v. Schwarzenegger: A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit heard arguments in the VSDA v. Schwarzenegger case, which involves last year’s decision to permanently enjoin enforcement of the videogame restriction law enacted by California in 2005. A ruling is likely in early 2009.
