> Funny indie sex comedy dissects relations between various couples.
Originally titled Young People Fuc*ing (and still bearing that title on its credits), this Canadian-made independent effort is as provocative as its moniker suggests, as well as funny, surprisingly sweet and insightful. Five different scenarios are played out from the early stages of an encounter through foreplay and sex up to the “afterglow.” Best friends, longtime couples and ex-lovers are among the participants in the bedroom antics, which are captured with refreshing frankness and wit. Although the characters aren’t as young as you’d think—most are in their mid- to late-20s—YPF should draw audiences interested in something spicier than the run-of-the-mill Hollywood rom-com.
Shelf Talk: Retailers who saw good returns on such adult-themed, sex-oriented titles as Shortbus, The Dreamers and Y Tu Mama Tambien will likely see many happy returns on this unrated erotic romp. Though the film’s theatrical exposure was limited to Canada (where it caused quite a controversy) and festival screenings, YPF should garner interest, especially from consumers aware of the movie’s real title. Image has Web-based exposure in its marketing plan.
