Cinevolve puts Blu-ray in first slate

New supplier will offer high-def titles at inexpensive prices

By Cindy Spielvogel -- Video Business, 8/20/2008

AUG. 20 | Cinevolve Studios will include inexpensively priced Blu-ray Disc titles in its initial home entertainment slate.

The CineBlu Collection will feature “Blu-ray titles at DVD prices,” according to Arik Treston, co-founder and CEO of Cinevolve. “We believe the new and better format shouldn’t be a luxury item, and we want audiences to see our films on the best formats out there.”

The company’s standard DVD titles will be priced lower than the Blu-ray titles.

Cinevolve’s fall slate kicks off Oct. 21 (prebook Sept. 23) with Holiday Favorites With the Wonderland Carolers. Priced at $14.95 on DVD and $22.95 on Blu-ray, the title features 33 classic and contemporary carols performed by the Los Angeles-based Wonderland Carolers.

The Line, an Australian action suspense film in which the line between cop and criminal becomes blurred, will bow from Cinevolve on Nov. 25 (prebook Oct. 21) priced at $22.95 on DVD and $29.95 on Blu-ray.

On Nov. 11, the company will release Becoming Family, a documentary directed by Carl Strecker (formerly of Video Business), on DVD only, priced at $14.95. The film tells the story of Dr. M. Rahmi Mowjood, who led a team of American doctors and medical students to Sri Lanka after the 2004 tsunami. The prebook date is Oct. 14.

Cinevolve will release two more films in December on DVD only: A Galaxy Far Far Away: Special Edition, a documentary about Star Wars fans (street Dec. 2, prebook Nov. 4; $14.95), and Finally, Lillian & Dan, a meditation on young love (street Dec. 16, prebook Nov. 18; $22.95).

Cinevolve's first title, documentary Home Front, bowed in June.
