Uncounted

By Buzz McClain -- Video Business, 8/4/2008

DISINFORMATION
Street: Aug. 26
Prebook: now
> Provocative film about election irregularities could have an impact this November.

According to Uncounted, confirmed wide-scale voting irregularities in the last two presidential elections have created the suspicion that the White House was stolen in bloodless coups, and because the results have not been sufficiently challenged, the potential for continued malfeasance by those who control and make electronic voting equipment is all but assured. Emmy-winner David Earnhardt spent three years collecting evidence and interviews in Florida, Ohio and other battleground regions, and he presents his findings here in a “we report, you decide” style. Politicians, media pundits, activists and citizens recall how vote counts suddenly changed or didn’t match exit polls, how voters were intimidated or purged from rolls and how government agencies worked in secret with electronic voting booth makers who had investments in election outcomes. The passion simmers as opposed to screeches (a la Michael Moore), but it is no less genuine.

Shelf Talk: Political junkies on both sides of the aisle will want to check out Uncounted, but anyone with a voting card and a conscious will be fascinated by the mysterious process of electronic voting. Timing is ideal given the elections in November and the popularity of such recent political docs as An Inconvenient Truth, Fahrenheit 9/11, Outfoxed and The Fog of War.

Documentary, color, NR (nothing offensive), 80 min., DVD $19.95
